The deadline for submission of the instances will start from April 7. Although the number of places offered has already been mentioned previously, it is worth mentioning it again. The number of places offered amounts to 4.119, distributed among the bodies of Secondary Education, Vocational Training and Special Regime Teachings.
Distribution of places by teaching staff
This call for applications includes places for various teaching staff with the aim of covering educational needs at different levels. These places are distributed as follows:
- Secondary Education Teachers: Around 2.826 places, including specialties such as Spanish Language and Literature, Mathematics, Biology, among others.
- Teachers: There are more than 2030 places on offer for this category, which represents a great opportunity for many candidates seeking a permanent position in Primary Education.
- Music and Performing Arts Teachers: There are 95 vacancies available in this specialty to cover the demand in Andalusian conservatories.
- Fine Arts and Design Teachers and Workshop Teachers: Although places are more limited (only 8 in total), this is an exceptional opportunity for those seeking stability in these specialties.
- Specialist Teachers in Specific Sectors of Vocational Training: 33 positions have been opened for this body, which continues to be essential in the training of the country's future professionals.
Requirements to participate in the competitions
The requirements to participate in the selection process are varied and depend on the body you wish to access. Below, we highlight the most important aspects that must be taken into account when submitting the application:
- Nationality: Applicants must be of Spanish nationality or from a Member State of the European Union, or meet the conditions established in international treaties.
- Title: It will be necessary to present the corresponding qualification for each teaching body, such as a Bachelor's, Master's, or Diploma, depending on the specialty.
- Additional qualifications: For language specialties, it is necessary to present certificates proving advanced knowledge of the corresponding language (C1 or C2).
- Disability: Applicants with a certified disability of 33% or more may apply for the disability reserve slot.
- Exemptions: Depending on the case, some people may request exemption from taking language accreditation tests, especially those who have completed official studies in Spain.
Phases of the competitive examination
The selection process for the competitive examination is divided into several phases, each with its own particularities. Below we detail the general procedure:
- Written test: This phase will consist of a written test covering the specific content of the specialty that the candidate wishes to access. It will have several parts, including the resolution of practical cases and theoretical questions.
- Oral presentation: In this second phase, candidates must prepare and present before a panel a teaching unit or program related to the chosen specialty.
- Evaluation of merits: Once the above tests have been passed, the merits provided by the candidates will be evaluated. Among the aspects that are valued are teaching experience, additional academic training and courses taken.
- Shortlists: Following the merit assessment, the lists of candidates who have passed the process will be published. The best qualified candidates will be able to apply for the available places.
Key points in the merit scale
In the merits section, the scale plays a fundamental role in obtaining a better score. Aspects such as the following will be assessed:
- Teaching experience: Years of service in public or private educational centers will be counted in this section, with higher scores for those who have more years of experience.
- Academic training: In this case, it will be essential to have additional qualifications such as a Master's Degree in Secondary Education (for those applying for secondary school places) or advanced language certifications (levels C1 and C2) that will be evaluated positively.
- Other merits: Participation in official teaching-related courses will also be taken into account, especially if these are 100 hours or more.
It should be noted that the number of places per specialty and center not only varies according to existing demand, but has also been designed based on the local needs of each Andalusian province.
supporting documentation
One of the most important parts for applicants is the presentation of supporting documentation. Below are the main requirements related to documentation:
- Identification document: Applicants must present a valid copy of their National Identity Document (DNI) or equivalent document for foreign citizens.
- Academic qualifications: The corresponding qualification, together with certified copies, must be attached to the application.
- Documentation for people with disabilities: Applicants with disabilities must provide a certificate of the degree of disability recognized in Spain. This must be issued by the competent authorities and be valid.
- Large family members: It is necessary to present the large family card or the valid certification issued by the competent body.
- Special requests: If the applicant requests special adaptations for the tests (for example, due to a disability), he or she must submit a medical report justifying his or her request.
Importance of stabilization oppositions
The stabilization oppositions are part of an extraordinary process that seeks to reduce the high rate of temporary employment in the Andalusian education system. This type of opposition, also called «light oppositions», offer temporary teachers with several years of experience a simplified way of accessing a permanent position. They are characterized by having fewer tests than traditional competitive examinations, and none of them are eliminatory.
According to sources from the Ministry of Educational Development and the Andalusian Regional Government, these competitive examinations provide stability to the thousands of temporary teachers who have been in the system for a long time, allowing the percentage of temporary teachers to be reduced and the quality of education to be improved in the long term.
It is important to mention that, although the exams coincide on dates, applicants can apply for several specialties, although they can only apply for one. Likewise, applicants who do not obtain a position, but pass the competition, will be able to access the teaching job pool, which opens up more job opportunities for them in the future.
With this stabilization of the teaching staff, Andalusia will take an important step towards consolidating a more qualified and stable educational system, helping both current interim teachers and new generations of teachers who are looking for their opportunity to become part of the system.
