When we study, a study technique that greatly facilitates the assimilation and meaningful memorization of concepts is undoubtedly the schematics. Although it may seem an old-fashioned technique, it has not been done or taught in schools and institutes around the world, for a reason!
The diagrams help us to capture on a sheet or presentation those "notes" or most important concepts that we must highlight and therefore review the subject at hand. But, how to make diagrams correctly without putting the whole agenda and without looking like mere summaries? Next, we tell you how.
Steps to properly outline
To have perfect diagrams that help you with the study of the topic or topics to be prepared, each and every one of the following steps is necessary (do not skip any):
- Fast reading: To have a general notion of what the subject we must study is about, the first thing we will do is do a quick reading without dwelling on details.
- Comprehensive reading and underlined by divisions: Next, if a topic is divided into several chapters or points, we will read and underline point by point. On this occasion, the reading will be slower and with it we will try to understand everything that is explained to us. Once we do this comprehensive reading of a point on the topic, we will move on to underline. With the underlining we will indicate the most important definitions and data. After reading and underlining a point of the topic, we will move on to the next point.
- Underline underline: If in the previous point we consider that we have underlined too many things, with a different colored pencil than the previous one, we will underline the most important and essential of the subject (dates, definitions, formulas, data, etc.). In this way, we will differentiate the most important from the most general.
- We will make the scheme below with everything underlined above, specifying at all times the title of each division or point of study, definitions, concepts, etc. We have to make a scheme that visually favors us to study (it catches our attention and does not bore us). In this way we will study with greater concentration and in a more visual way that will also help us to remember better. Help yourself with colored markers if that helps you assimilate the concepts more and better.
- The following will be study the scheme carefully And as a last step, to make sure that we know what we have studied, I recommend repeating this scheme only based on what we have memorized. We can also make a summary as a conclusion.
It may seem like a slow technique in terms of dedication time, but it is one of the most effective when it comes to studying. We promise that it will help you if you study a subject, opposition, an course, etc.
