What has virtual teaching meant?

Before the era "Internet" and the IT-technology boom things that now seem so simple were unthinkable: having a conversation and being able to see a person who is on the other side of the world in real time, having all the information available and having with just two clicks without having to open an encyclopedia , know the status of your finances without having to go to the bank personally, etc. Endless things including, of course, learning new things without going to class and having only a computer and a good internet connection. This is virtual teaching, and there are many advantages it has brought to our lives.

Next, we tell you what has virtual teaching meant for all of us who are eager to learn new things.

Advantages of being able to opt for a virtual teaching

I remember that in a teaching class, it was said that teaching would change over time and that perhaps the role of the teacher-teacher was not as important and significant as it was before or is now. All of us present, future teachers, put our hands to our heads, thinking both about our future work and also remembering our childhood teachers or high school teachers who had contributed so much to us, not only in the subjects to study (mathematics , language, chemistry, etc.) but also in the education in values that had been transmitted to us.

However, today, I also know what it is like to enroll in a distance university to be able to work at the same time, I am in the position that no teaching, face-to-face or virtual, should replace the other, and that both can perfectly coexist (as in the case of the book and the 'ebook', which caused such a stir among the "literati" when the latter appeared).

Face-to-face teaching will always bring you that closeness both with teachers and with classmates that no matter how much the virtual one tries, it doesn't come close. However, virtual teaching has other advantages that are also noteworthy:

  • Study with a fully flexible schedule: you adapt it to your needs and / or obligations. This in a face-to-face teaching is unthinkable (they pass lists and put lack of attendance, there is an agenda to follow at the same time as all your classmates, some activities to deliver, etc.).
  • There is greater cooperation and solidarity between studentsSince when we find ourselves alone before an agenda, we usually look for that small group of virtual colleagues who "help" us in these teamwork, in "leaving us" exams from other years, notes, and so on.
  • La interactivity with the Virtual Campus where you will find everything you need to have for your studies: notes, student forum, question forum, chat with teachers, emails, explanatory videos, recommended study calendar and exam dates, self-evaluations, etc.

We must not forget the free courses as specific as for example "Mindfulness techniques", "App programming", and a long etcetera that we have present in those online MOOCs courses that we can access without the need for requirements and payments, only by accessing through a username and password.

Therefore, and it is only an opinion, I consider that virtual and global education has brought more benefits than disadvantages to our lives, but that it should not replace face-to-face teaching, but must live with it, especially so that everyone can choose what suits you best.
