The Santander City Council, through the Department of Youth, Employment and New Technologies, will carry out an ambitious training program aimed at 250 unemployed registered in the city. This initiative will have a total of 20 courses, specifically designed to meet the growing demand for vocational training in the Cantabrian capital. According to councillor Samuel Ruiz, the main objective is to improve the employment prospects of these citizens, responding to the areas of employment with the greatest demand in the region.
Unemployment data in Santander
Ruiz highlighted that in Cantabria there is a total of 43.000 unemployed, of which 13.500 correspond to citizens of Santander, which means the 32% of the regional total. This situation is of particular concern to the local council, which is committed to offering solutions adapted to this problem.
Topics and types of courses available
The courses have been designed with the most in-demand job segments in mind in Santander. The highlighted areas include:
- Landscape restoration: This area includes training in gardening techniques, green space design and environmental restoration.
- Integration of people with disabilities: It offers tools to promote the social and labour inclusion of people with special needs.
In addition, the AMICA association will be one of those responsible for providing part of this training, which guarantees the quality y specialization in these areas.
Specialized training for vulnerable groups
Part of the courses will be aimed at specific groups that face greater difficulties in finding employment, such as of, YOUNG y long-term unemployedThese training courses, mostly experimental in nature, include specialties such as:
- Trade and customer service.
- Training for security guards.
- Specialization in administrative management and warehouses.
These programs aim not only to teach Technical abilities, but also to improve the transversal skills y personal of the participants.
Training in new technologies and audiovisuals
In addition, the City Council will extend a course focused on the audiovisual field. This program will be open to all Santander residents, unemployed or not, in order to improve the digital skills y creative of the participants, key areas in a constantly changing labor market.
Duration and methodology of the courses
The duration of the courses will range from 120 and 630 hours, depending on the specialty, with face-to-face modalities designed to maximize the hands-on learningThese programs are free and subsidized, confirming the city council's commitment to the professional and economic development of its citizens.
Participants who complete the courses will receive certificates of professionalism which will accredit their new skills, an essential element to improve their employability.
Long-term programs: Young Talent Schools
At the same time, the City Council has launched the Young Talent Schools, former Workshop Schools, a project aimed at people under 30 years of age who do not work or study. With a duration of 18 months, these schools combine six months of training with twelve months of paid employment, equivalent to the Interprofessional Minimum Wage. Available specialties include:
- Construction and decorative painting.
- Assembly and repair of microcomputer systems.
