More and more fathers and mothers are able to do their work from home thanks to the advances of the Internet in society. At the beginning of the year, like when you wake up in the morning ... you have new opportunities to do everything better! The beginning of the year is an ideal time to review professional and personal goals.

To be successful with this year's resolutions, you have to take into account what are the goals that you must achieve during the little less than 365 days that you have ahead. While everyone should customize their own set of resolutions, here are some goals that those who work from home ... You should consider them!

Organisation

January is the time to review organization systems and add new ones (but of course you can do it at any time). You may find that you need to better keep track of your tax documents, or that a post-holiday cleanup can reveal trash accumulating in one place. Maybe what you need is better your time management ... find your weak point and make improvements!

Follow the basic rules

You should set yourself basic work-at-home rules and follow them. This is essential in order to have a good work-life balance. If you don't follow them, they don't make sense. You have a dual purpose at home: to work and to be with your family. In order for others to comply with the rules, you must first respect them yourself. The weakness in each area, so you know where to focus your efforts, if the rules don't work there will be new ones.

Set short and long term goals

Whatever your goals: follow the basic rules, grow your business, lose weight, spend more time with your family… you won't achieve them if you don't make a conscious effort. Inertia often keeps us on the same path, unless you set goals to go further. And in a bad economy or changing family dynamics (like the birth of a child), sometimes we have to work harder to maintain what we have. Goals must be set ... and thus meet them.

But the objectives must be divided into sub objectives. You can start with the general goals and work your way back until you identify what your daily goals need to be to reach them.

Beware of distractions

Distractions are a problem for all mothers and fathers who work at home. It is not always the children who are distracting. Distractions often come in the form of chores, friends, spouses, television, or the Internet. Identify what your most common distraction is and set a daily goal to deal with it.

Accept the change

Things are always changing with children. They acquire new skills and express more complicated ideas every day. Parents need to recognize when children are ready for more responsibilities and privileges without weighing them down. Moms who work at home and have a lot in their daily responsibilities may find it easier to do a task on their own rather than spending time teaching a child. But resist that urge and enjoy those teachable moments with your children.  In the long run it will pay you back enormously when they learn and have new skills.

Have time for yourself

Mothers and fathers who work from home can find themselves without a single moment of personal time. It is up to you to make sure that this does not happen. Find what you like to do and do it with the time you have. Reading for pleasure, going on "dates" with your spouse, volunteering, playing sports, or visiting your favorite spa are just a few ideas. Even if it's just a walk or a quiet bath, those moments will give you a chance to recharge your batteries.

The benefits of working from home are many… and the pros outweigh the cons! Why do you work or would you work from home? It takes a lot of discipline!
